The state of Washington is surprisingly varied, and this gallery celebrates the beauty of everything from its magnificent mountains and lakes, to its lesser-known sea stacks and rain forests. All photos are from a single road trip visiting the state's three national parks with my then-fiancée (just two months before our wedding!) during a really bad wildfire season in September 2022. Consequently, we merely caught a smoky glimpse of iconic places like Diablo Lake and Mount Baker, not even worth taking pictures of, during the days we stayed in the area. Nevertheless, that was compensated for by a stunning sunrise at Reflection Lakes in Mount Rainier National Park and a magical sunset at Washington Pass, just outside of North Cascades National Park. Washington's forests and alpine meadows teem with adorable wildlife, so you'll also find here pictures featuring fluffy marmots, noble mountain goats (including their playful calves!) and even a shy white-tailed ptarmigan.
